I am drawn to black-and-white photography because it yields dramatic, poignant imagery. The works of Edward Weston inspire me, his sharp focus and use of the full tonal range to capture the forms of nature and the human body as fine art. 


With this project, I am embarking on an exploration of the human form as it relates to nature. A series of selected images will be combined and placed side by side to create a contrast that signals an internal relationship between both forms. I am interested in finding converging lines and similarities in composition.

The juxtaposition of these images portrays fragments of the human form and transports the viewer’s associations with the body from the familiar to the foreign. This duality, sensual or aggressive, will be achieved through the use of shadows, light, cropping and framing.
